1954 Porsche 356 Speedster silver

Here is a truly rare opportunity to own a piece of Porsche history. This 1954 Pre-A 356 Speedster Prototype is extremely original and solid. Please take the time to carefully inspect all of the pictures below especially pictures with roof on, roof off, tonneau cover on, engine, interior, floor pans, door jams, battery box, etc. and feel free to ask questions. Remember, this is not a replica, this is the real deal. This is the reason there is a replica industry. Following is vital information pertaining to this treasure: - Serial Number 80105 - #105 of 200 ever produced - #104 was James Dean's first Porsche - 100 sold to the public - Each of the 100 prototypes are unique - Several handmade one-of-a-kind parts - Believed to be 51 left in the World - Won several amateur races in the 1950's - Delivered in November 1954 in Los Angeles - Only 3 owners in 49 years - Re-painted first time in 1970 from Signal Red to Silver - Ground up restoration in 1997 - only second time that the car was painted. Mileage is 14,800 since restoration. - 90%+ original parts from delivery - Original tool kit and jack included - Original convertible top and side curtains from 1954 in great shape - Original seats and door panel vinyl in great shape - All original sheet metal including floor pans (original primer still visible on floor pans) - Original wooden seat rails still in tact - Original 6 volt electrical system, steering wheel and gauges - Engine and transmission replaced with B Series 1600CC engine and transmission in early 1960's. Also note the special racing exhaust - Shown with original racing headlight grills. Original hella lenses are included - 1st Place and Best of Show in several area car shows - Feature story done in Northwest Herald (suburban Chicago paper) - To be featured in an automotive calendar in the near future. Calendar girl not included (see pictures below) - Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche included - All old parts replaced in 1997 restoration included with the car. This car truly is a time capsule back to 1954 and Porsches infancy as a car company. Please note the original Reutter Coachworks badge with the appropriate 80105 stamps. Based on it's originality and documented provenance, this is truly a rare find. This is a car that will literally stop traffic and cause you to be the center of attention at the next Porsche Parade. The quality of this restoration is extremely high. Exterior paint quality is extremely nice with no visible flaws at all. The deep silver paint shines like new. Similarly, the interior is in excellent condition. The seats (black with red piping) and door panels date back to 1954 and are in better condition than those found on my 1986 Porsche. Even the top is incredible with no signs of wear. The tonneau cover has been replaced and the original is included (it is in good shape just faded slightly). Original Porsche Certificate of Authenticity (see picture) verifies this car to be a 1954 356 Speedster. There are many one of a kind styling accents on this vehicle that did not make it to production in 1955 (see dashboard pictures, for example). This is the reason it is known as a prototype. This car was literally a work in progress. This is not a 356Speedster.com replica. This is the real deal. With the original drivetrain, I believe this would bring $90k-$100k at Barrett-Jackson any day of the week. With the later drivetrain, I still believe it to be a mid $80k car. Drive it, enjoy it or use it as an investment. I have a feeling that this car will appreciate in value at a higher rate than your Mutual Funds. This is not a trailer queen, it is a drivers car. They are not producing any of these classics anymore. DRIVING IMPRESSIONS: This car may be gorgeous to look at and is surely a museum piece but Porsches are built to be driven. This one with it's early 60's 356B motor and drivetrain, drives like a dream. It starts without a problem even on a cold morning (like today). Car provides a very raw driving experience and gives the driver a very "in touch with the road" type of feel. Nothing like it. This baby really must be driven to be appreciated. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PERSONAL IMPRESSIONS: I have been a Porsche Club Member for over 20 years and I have seen many rare and fantastic Porsches at local and zone concours events. This car is truly a rare and stunning find. Over the years, the Porsche that impressed me most was a 1952 America Roadster. Since there are perhaps 3 in the world (valued at about $1 million) and the car is in perfect condition, the America Roadster hold the #1 spot as far as breathtaking Porsches. I think this '54 Pre-A Speedster is easily the #2 coolest Porsche that I've ever seen. Just my 2 cents worth. Vehicle Condition - I have personally driven, inspected and photographed this car. It is in excellent condition both cosmetically and mechanically. I invite any interested party to come to the Chicago area and personally inspect and drive this beauty. Seeing will surely be believing. There are no known defects. This car is in stunningly beautiful condition. Car has been maintained by a Porsche master mechanic who worked for Porsche in Stuttgart for 24 years. Car is tuned up annaully and maintained throughout the year with an open wallet policy. This is truly an opportunity for a discerning collector to acquire a car that will always be a significant part of motoring history of the 50's.
