2003 Mercedes-Benz SL 350 - Six Cylinder SL

The Mercedes-Benz SL 350: Sports car thrills driven by a powerful six-cylinder engine

New model variant from the successful SL-Class range

245-hp V6 engine takes the driver from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.2 seconds

High-tech systems such as SBC™, vario-roof and integral seats as standard

SEQUENTRONIC with sporty steering wheel operation

Stuttgart, Dec 03, 2002

The attractive and dynamic new six-cylinder SL 350 sports car is the latest addition to the highly successful Mercedes-Benz SL-Class range. With its state-of-the-art 180-kW/245-hp V6 engine, developing peak torque of 350 Newtonmetres at 3000 rpm, the new SL 350 is well equipped to provide powerful acceleration throughout the speed range. The new SL 350 covers the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.2 seconds and reaches a maximum speed of 250 km/h (electronically limited).

Even in standard specification, the V6 sports car boasts the unique high-tech innovations which also distinguish the SL 500 presented in autumn 2001. These include the vario-roof, Sensotronic Brake Control (SBC™), automatic roll-over bar, electrically adjustable integral seats, adaptive airbags for driver and passenger, and large head-thorax sidebags. The Mercedes sports car is also fitted as standard with a stereo radio system, sensor-controlled automatic climate control, xenon headlamps, high-quality aluminium trim and seat covers in a sporty fabric/leather combination.

SEQUENTRONIC: changing gear using buttons on the steering wheel

Mercedes-Benz has connected the V6 engine with the SEQUENTRONIC automated six-speed transmission, which SL 350 drivers can operate from the steering wheel, as in a racing car. Two rocker switches on the back of the steering wheel spokes allow particularly fast gear-change at the touch of a button. In addition, SEQUENTRONIC offers two gearshift programs ("Comfort" and "Sport"), which drivers can use to adapt the characteristics of the transmission to their personal driving style. Meanwhile, auto-shift mode is available for stop-and-go traffic conditions. This function enables SEQUENTRONIC to change gear automatically. An electronically controlled five-speed automatic transmission with Touchshift can be ordered as an option.

The chassis: Sensotronic Brake Control ensures outstanding safety

The new six-cylinder SL-Class model also comes as standard with the same leading-edge chassis construction as the SL 500, with the exception of the Active Body Control spring/damper control system. This means that the SL 350 also features four-link front suspension and multi-link independent rear suspension made from aluminium, wide 255/45 R 17 tyres and disc brakes on all wheels, which are applied by the Sensotronic Brake Control electrohydraulic high-pressure braking system in response to the driving situation in hand. Active Body Control is available as an option for the SL 350.
