2005 Ultima GTR Sets 0-100-0 mph World Record PART 1: ULTIMA SPORTS LTD BREAKS 0-100mph-0 WORLD RECORD The Ultima Factory have smashed the production car world record in an Ultima GTR for sprinting to 100mph and back to zero again leaving all other super cars in its wake along a 1.8-mile runway at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground, Leicestershire. Driven by Ultima Director, Richard Marlow, the factory built Ultima GTR set a new world record time of 10.3 seconds to achieve 0-100mph-0 smashing the previous record by half a second. The British built super car stormed from 0-60mph in 2.8 secs and reached 100mph from standstill in an incredible 5.9 secs before coming back to rest a mere 4.4 secs later. The 100mph to zero braking time not including the drivers reaction time was just 3.97secs. All of the times were set by a standard, factory built, fully road legal, road tyred Ultima GTR built using all of the high spec factory specified and proven parts. The car was even equipped with heavy luxuries such as air conditioning but no traction control devices; launch control systems or ABS braking aids were used. The car was fitted with its recommended Porsche G50 5 speed transaxle and normally aspirated 640BHP 377ci Chevrolet V8 engine which is a standard offering by the factory from its official engine suppliers American Speed at www.amerspeed.com. This record time beats the legendary £630,000 McLaren F1 road car by well over a full second at less than one tenth of the cost! Richard Marlow, Director of Ultima Sports Ltd said "The 0-100mph-0 test is believed by many to be the ultimate test for any car and is a true indicator of a cars all round performance ability. We haven't strapped any timing gear onto one of our cars for a few years now and decided that the time was right to demonstrate to everybody how we have been successfully developing our product over the years and gained a world record in the process. We also wanted to achieve over 200mph at the relatively short Bruntingthorpe runway on the same day however severe rain and thunderstorms curtailed this for now but it didn't stop Ted from achieving a rather interesting 192mph pass in the wet on standing water with over 1500rpm still available!" The test was conducted, overseen and verified by an official from Datron Technology and the latest state of the art GPS timing gear was utilised to achieve and ensure maximum accuracy. A submission has been made to the world-renowned Guinness Book of Records. PART 2: ULTIMA SPORTS LTD SETS WORLD BEATING PERFORMANCE STATS The Ultima Factory have set a catalogue of devastatingly fast world beating performance figures this week using the same 640bhp Ultima GTR which smashed the 0-100mph-0 world record. Ultima utilised the facilities at the world renowned Motor Industry Research Association (MIRA) and Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground to set the times. All tests have been strictly conducted, overseen and verified by an official from Datron Technology who are acknowledged by the Guinness Book of Records and the motoring press as official timekeepers. The Ultima GTR was fully road legal, fitted with road tyres, built to a standard factory specification and it was driven to and from each test venue. The world beating performance figures obtained are: 0-60mph 2.7secs 0-100mph 5.5secs 0-150mph 11.8secs 30-70mph 2.0secs 0-100mph-0 10.3secs 100mph-0 Braking 3.9secs Speed Achieved 204mph on the Bruntingthorpe straight Top Speed 231mph est. (gearing limited) Standing ¼ mile 10.5secs @ 140mph terminal * Engine Chevrolet V8 377cu in Power 641bhp Torque 545ft/lbs Transmission Porsche G50 * NOTE- The standing quarter mile time would be at least two tenths of a second faster if tested at an official drag strip as it uses a timing system which is configured differently to the Microsat GPS equipment operated by Datron. Also a seasoned drag strip would provide increased traction, which would reduce times even further. Director of Ultima Sports Ltd, Richard Marlow, who was the driver of the car during the record runs, said "To put the figures into perspective this 640bhp Ultima GTR is the fastest road legal car Datron Technology have ever timed by a huge amount and they have tested some of the most exotic supercars on the planet. We were for example a full second quicker than the £630,000 McLaren F1 to 150mph and several seconds more rapid than all other super cars. No car not even the McLaren F1 that Datron have tested could accelerate sufficiently well to actually even achieve 200mph on the relatively short Bruntingthorpe 1.8 mile runway from a standing start but the Ultima GTR managed it with ease and had plenty left in reserve. We are also confident that there is significant room for improvement in our 0-100mph-0-world record, as we have trimmed over four tenths of a second from our 0-100mph time during recorded runs on the mile straight at MIRA. During testing the Ultima repeatedly recorded world breaking times and for example achieved over ten 0-100mph runs in the 5secs bracket back to back. We have been forced to work around the recent bad weather to achieve the results and the recorded figures have created a real stir in the automotive world" Ted Marlow, Managing Director, commented, "We are continuously developing our product and these sensational figures help to demonstrate this fact. The record times were set in an Ultima GTR that was built with standard factory components which means that the Ultima that was tested was a standard car from the price lists and not a specially tuned hybrid. American Speed - our official OE engine suppliers, who built the 640bhp world record-breaking engine also work a policy of continuous development. They have just released today an Ultima specification 700 bhp 377cu.in and a 720 bhp 406 cu.in engine option, which utilise amongst other changes lightweight titanium valves that help boost power output. This was the result of extensive research and testing on their in house dyno and American Speed have succeeded in building another engine that although making the Ultima devastatingly quick will ensure that the car is a pleasure to drive at normal road speeds. The Ultima GTR that set the 0-100mph-0 world record has since been busy with show appearances at Donington and for the whole of last week in an exhibition at MIRA where it was displayed alongside a current spec Jaguar F1 car" Ultima hopes to be invited to appear in the next series of Top Gear so that they can hand over the keys to the Stig and demolish the current lap record. PART 3: ULTIMA FACTORY DEMOLISHES ITS OWN WORLD RECORD The Ultima Factory, who are the current world record 0-100mph-0 holders, today proved beyond any doubt that the Ultima GTR is the fastest accelerating and decelerating road car on the planet by setting a new world record time of 9.8 seconds for the 0-100mph-0 sprint. This is the first ever sub ten seconds 0-100mph-0 recorded in the world! The standard factory production specification Ultima GTR was powered by a 377c.i 685bhp Chevrolet V8 engine once again built by American Speed who are the official Original Equipment engine suppliers to Ultima. This engine is a standard part option available from the American Speed pricelist. The Ultima GTR stormed from 0-60mph in 2.8secs and 0-100mph in 5.8 secs which are in themselves world record times, and braked from 100mph to zero in just 3.6 secs. Richard Marlow, director of Ultima Sports Ltd and driver of the Ultima GTR during the world record run said "Our new world record once again proves that the Ultima GTR is truly the fastest supercar currently available in the world today, and by a substantial margin. What's more as with all factory spec Ultima's the devastatingly fast world record breaking GTR is equally at home on the public roads as it's an absolute pleasure to drive at normal road speeds thanks to the car's user-friendly nature and smooth power banded engine. We are also currently installing a 640bhp engine into one of our other demonstrators, to be named the Ultima GTR640 in commemoration of all of our existing world records achieved with 640bhp. We look forward to the Stig taking on allcomers around the Top Gear test track in our demonstrator assuming of course that the BBC feel it is appropriate to give our British built sportscar the opportunity to humiliate their current lap record holder the Ferrari Enzo." The Ultima GTR used on the successful record attempt was fully road legal, fitted with road tyres and was driven to and from the test venue. Once again the world record was strictly conducted, overseen and verified by an official from Datron Technology who are acknowledged by the Guinness Book of Records and the motoring press as official timekeepers, using state of the art Microsat GPS equipment. A submission has been sent to the Guinness Book of Records. Ted Marlow commented "We are particularly delighted that we achieved two 9.8secs world record runs in a row for good measure. Also the data sheet shows that the full potential of the Ultima GTR at the 0-100mph-0 sprint still hasn't been realized because if you take our fastest recorded 0-100mph time of 5.5secs (achieved during a successful 0-150mph world record run in September 2004 when track temperature was higher) and marry it to our fastest recorded 100mph to zero braking time of 3.6secs, then a low 9 secs 0-100mph-0 run is possible. That's something to aim for another day." PART 4: ULTIMA FACTORY ESTABLISHES WORLD BEATING SKIDPAD STATISTIC The Ultima Factory yesterday has set another world beating statistic in the all-conquering Ultima GTR. The Ultima GTR logged a road car skidpad world record of 1.176g lateral grip around a 200ft diameter circle, at the Chertsey test facility. The skidpad is a well-known test, particularly common in the USA, and is regarded by many leading car manufacturers as the dyno of grip. A 200ft diameter circle looks about as much like a real corner as a dyno roller looks like a road, but as a tool, it's an unbeatable facsimile of the real thing. The correct procedure to conduct the test accurately is to measure the lap time around a 200ft circle and then this data is converted into lateral acceleration. The fastest two laps in each direction are recorded, and the final score is the average of these four laps. The Ultima GTR road car used for the successful record attempt was the factory's recently completed standard production specification Ultima GTR640 demonstrator which was driven by Ultima Directors, Ted and Richard Marlow, who both recorded virtually identical world beating lap times to each other. Richard Marlow commented " Now we have officially proved that the Ultima GTR is the fastest accelerating and decelerating supercar in the world with our other world records, the time has come to demonstrate through independent verified timing how incredibly well the Ultima GTR handles and corners, and this new record is part of our 2005 campaign to comprehensively demonstrate this fact beyond any doubt. It will be particularly interesting to officially measure the peak cornering g's that the Ultima GTR is capable of pulling around a high-speed race circuit in comparison to other supercars. Brute power is pointless without control, but where the Ultima GTR is concerned it possesses both these attributes in equally large measures".
Once again, as with all Ultima's world beating figures, the test was strictly conducted, overseen and verified by an official from Datron Technology who are acknowledged by the motoring press and the Guinness Book of Records as official timekeepers, using state of the art Microsat GPS equipment. The Ultima GTR640 used for the successful world beating run was fully road legal, fitted with road tyres and was driven to and from the test venue.
